Carbonation Kinetics of Fine CaO Particles in a Sound-Assisted Fluidized Bed for Thermochemical Energy Storage

The calcium-looping process, relying on the reversible calcination/carbonation of CaCO3, is one most promising solution to perform thermochemical energy storage (TCES) for concentrating solar power (CSP) plants. Indeed, CaO precursors such as limestone can rely high density, low cost, large availability and nontoxicity. In this work, study sound-assisted carbonation fine particles (< 50 ?m) TCES-CSP has been furthered. particular, a kinetic performed analyze effect particular conditions be used in applications, i.e. involving under CO2 partial pressure at temperature. All experimental tests have lab-scale fluidized bed reactor applying intensity acoustic field with proper frequency (150 dB–120 Hz). kinetics analyzed by simple model, able properly describe fast (under control) slow diffusion stage reaction. reaction rate, intrinsic constant characteristic product layer thickness evaluated, also highlighting their dependence temperature between 800 845 °C; value 49 kJ mol?1 obtained activation energy. Finally, good agreement conversion-time profiles, evaluated from applied models, data obtained.
